Team Schein: Making a difference in our communities

henry schein cares corporate social responsibility csr

At Henry Schein, our TSMs (Team Schein Members) are making a positive impact both inside and outside the office. Supported by the Henry Schein initiative giving every employee two paid days off per year to volunteer, our TSMs have been busy making a difference in their communities.

Let’s take a look at some of the recent remarkable endeavours of Team Schein members as they dedicate their time and efforts to creating a better world. From participating in global challenges to organising fundraising events, their commitment to community welfare is something we are incredibly proud of.

We Care Global Challenge unites Team Schein UK

In April, TSMs from Gillingham and Derby joined forces to take part in the We Care Global Challenge.

The ‘We Care Global Challenge’ is a Henry Schein initiative that unites TSMs from around the world with the shared goal of ‘Helping Health Happen’ for people in need.

At Gillingham their mission was to pack 500 hygiene kits for the dedicated caregivers supporting cancer patients.

The Gillingham team packed an impressive 250 kits in just 15.13 minutes, while the Derby team accomplished the same feat in just over 18 minutes. Their teamwork and determination were truly commendable!

Veni, Vidi, Vici Pod's Walk for Mental Health

The group who completed the walk are Beccy Haworth, Andrew Wood, Shannon Loonam, Denielle Brown, Nehsa Shah, Frankie Robins, Matt Robins, Marie Messum, and Lorraine Nix from the OneSchein Pod, "Veni, Vidi, Vici", embarked on a 10k walk to raise funds for mental health charity MIND.MicrosoftTeams-image (29)

MIND was founded in 1946 and has been fighting ever since for better mental healthcare in England and Wales. The goal of the charity is to make mental health an everyday priority, and to stand up against the injustices experienced by people suffering from mental health problems.

The group went to Rutland Water, accompanied by Rufus the CavaPoo, and completed the 10K walk, spreading awareness and support.

Even those who couldn't participate in the walk contributed generously through donations from friends and family, resulting in an impressive total of £675.

Lee Rowe's Climb for Mental Health Awareness

Inspired by the loss of his brother, Lee aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to support those struggling with their well-being. Through his determination, Lee raised an impressive £1,285, showing us all the impact individual efforts can have.

The climb took place on 8th April and started at 4:20am, an early start that gave Lee and his fellow climbers a beautiful view of the sunrise.

Claire Wilkin's Marathon Journey for MacMillan

MicrosoftTeams-image (31)Claire Wilkin, a Data Administrator within Content Management, has successfully completed the extraordinary challenge of running the London Marathon.

Claire ran with her friend Carly, the pair completed the gruelling 26.2-mile race in 4 hours and 50 minutes while raising an incredible £5,905 for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Claire said: “Clarly’s dad passed away in June 2021 from cancer, and her mum is currently receiving cancer treatment. Unfortunately, we all know family or friends who have suffered or are suffering from cancer, so we decided to sign up for the London Marathon and fundraise for Macmillan.

“I would like to thank everyone who donated and supported us, it kept us going and helped us reach the finish line. We managed to raise over double our original fundraising goal!”

Hockey for All charity match

The annual 'Hockey for All' charity match brought together Team Schein members and hockey enthusiasts for an afternoon of friendly competition in Dundee on the 6th May, and supported a good cause.

Held at the Dundee Ice Arena, this event saw red team and blue team go head to head and raise over £1,100 for TCCL, a children's charity supporting cancer and leukaemia patients.

Gerry Dolan, Senior Service Technician, who was involved with the fundraising, said: “Hockey for All Dundee was created to give anyone who wanted the chance to try ice hockey. As long as you have some skating and stopping abilities you are welcome to come along – it’s non-contact and fun for all. We have our annual charity/memorial game once a year.”
